      Rather than becoming a priest, he left France at 19 years old with 7 others from the Pyrenees. The Bordeaux on 12/14/1855 and arrived in San Francisco in August 1856. An 8 month voyage. Soon after he came to Los Angeles & worked for Penelon repairing the Plaza church. He then purchased a sheep ranch in San Diego County. By 1860, he had bought up 17,000 acres of land engulfing a hacienda called Ramona. He is credited with founding the town that bears the name Ramona. He also returned to France in the 1870's to participate in the Franco-Prussian War.
